Alright... Maybe I was overdoing it a bit with the five star rating. This place is after all kind of a glorified Beto's with the exception of a few unusual and most often yummy items, but is, to use an overused term, sort of hit or miss, actually. I still go here, but not with quite the enthusiasm of my initial few visits. Still a heck of a lot better than Beto's or Alberto's, that's for sure! I'll keep going, though, and when the food gets consistently good again, I'll go back to a five star rating. I really still have high hopes for Willyberto's!

I really like Willey Bertos. Food is real good, the inside is nice, but I can't always count on them to be open at 7am when they say they will be. Twice so far I've showed up at 8 and they weren't there, which means I can't count on them for breakfast before work.

A lot of these reviews were for Gringo's, back when it was that and need to be discarded. This is more of the "molcasalsa" type places, with one crucial difference. This place kicks all kinds of ass. If they had something decent in the fountain, it would be total ass that they would have their feet into. Very nice service and the salsa bar and the sides can be very hit or miss, but the meats...where else at one of these style places can you find the carne asada served to you as actual steaks instead of chopped up pieces of meat and gristle? Nowhere I know of and in fact, if there is a better Mexican restaurant in this style in the city and probably the state, I don't know of it. Both their chile verde and carne asada were strongly reminiscent of repeated visits to the houses of friends of mine from Mexico, both in flavor, style and presentation and frankly, this gives a lot of sit-down restaurants a run for their money as well. It also is close to the awesome TEAramisu, which is its own bonus. If you care at all about this kind of food, this place is a must.

SOOO much better than the other BS drive-thru Mexican places. The guy I always deal with at night couldn't be more accommodating or delightful. they will make the carne asada fries with rare steak and well done fries epic!

Tried this place with my husband last night. We both got violently sick last night. It wasn't great going down, but it was even worse coming back up. Avoid this spot unless you're looking for a quick weight loss plan.

Place is awesome. Best late night in SLC. Comparable to Hectors (not quite as good) but open 24/7!

This place is great. I have been there twice. Lots of choices on the menu. I ordered the carne asade burrito two different visits because it is so good. I'll be back to try something else on the menu. You've driven by. Stop in next time. It's not a Taco Time anymore.

Ordered the chicken fajitas plate, horrible. I don't even think they used fajita seasoning. Very little onions/vegetables. Very little rice and beans. Spent almost $10. Took forever for them to make.

Is now Willy Bertos.... And based upon my last visit, not an improvement. Prices have gone up, significantly. Portions have also increased, but taste has not experienced a positive change. Heavy grease taste on the b&c burrito. Just very little flavor beyond grease.

PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW: ALL THE REVIEWS OF THIS PLACES FOR GRINGOS ARE NO LONGER VALID. It is a completely different business now, and it is *awesome*. Its open 24/7. I will never return to the Del Taco further down the street for late night food. I ate cheese enchildas today and was totally floored. They were amazingly good.

While at one point I would have agreed with the previous reviewer, recent management changes have greatly improved the experience here. Incredibly helpful staff and a comfortable environment make this an enjoyable place to lunch. Food quality I woul place above Taco Bell and just below Taco Time. Love it!

So I had the pleasure of trying out Gringos the other day. I say that with a bit of sarcasm. I ask the cashier what's good with regards to the platters (because I had a buy one, get one free coupon for platters), and she recommended the chili verde. Being a long time fan of enchiladas, I also order the enchiladas as well. OK, the good. The cashier was really nice. Actually, everyone was really nice. She offered to give me a punch card and explained that if I ordered how many meals, i would get a free one. She also asked me if I wanted chips and salsa. Wary, I asked her if it was extra. She said no. So that was nice. When the food came, it was a pretty sizable portion. About the same portion you would get at a more upscale restaurant (or at least a casual restaurant that is not fast food, which Gringos clearly is), only it's half the price. Hallelujah! Right? OK, maybe not so fast. You know the old saying "You get what you pay for." Well, at first sight, it doesn't seem that way, because of the large portions. I mean, you get the same rice, beans, salad with sour cream, as you would at more expensive establishments, so it really does seem like a bargain, right? Well, not exactly. When you dig into the rice, you notice that it's pretty hard. It's pretty crunchy. Just like that one failed time I went to Blue Iguana and was complaining the whole time. Yeah, very unfresh. Very "I've been sitting around for a very long time, waiting to harden". And the beans? Probably more sodium than bean. I mean, it looked like mushed beans from a glance, but who knows what was really in there. They could have poured on the whole salt shaker for all I know. Salad with sour cream was actually OK though. Comparable. The meat in the enchiladas was very shreddy, which, while not to my preference, I cannot fault them for because they were never really specific about what type or form (as opposed to other higher end restaurants that will actually write beef, pork, chicken and diced, sliced, etc.). The chile verde burrito, while a bit off, was still OK. Salty yes, but not nearly as much as the beans. That might just be a taste thing, as it wasn't like the home made chile verde I was used to, but that doesn't make it inherently bad. I like that they added tater tots though (and called them Mexi-tots). I thought that was kind of cute! Oh, and it was nice to get free chips and salsa, but like the beans, the chips too were WAY too salty. I was even asking myself, "You know, if you ARE going to down all this salt, are you going to the gym afterwards to SOMEWHAT redeem yourself. Because if not, you will die of a heart attack as soon as you get home!" Anyway, overall, I suppose they can tone down the salt a bit...and probably use fresher rice...but then, that might push them into the higher end category, which I'm sure they're seeking to avoid. It really is a quaint concept though...fast Mexican food...but not Taco Bell type...or Alberto's Taqueria for that matter. One thing I do look for in Mexican food, though, is the comfort factor. Like does it make your tummy feel all warm and satisfied? Does it have a mom's cooking dimension to it? And unfortunately, Gringos' didn't.

Awful. The tortillas were almost doughy. My burrito would not stay together after 3 bites, and it tasted like everything was pulled out of the garbage disposal. Do yourself a favor and stay clear of this place.

Gringos, is a bit out of the ordinary compared to other fast food mexi joints. The previous poster does it no justice. If you're comparing Gringos to Taco Bell you're already destroying any credibility you may have thought you had. Gringos is above and beyond the rancid so called mush you get when you order food at Taco Bell. Now lets be honest who are we to fight over the credibility of fast food? Fast food is fast food. However at least Gringo's takes the time to use real meat, real beans, and real food. Not processed space goop passed off for meat. Now I'm not huge into fried food at all so when I go to Gringos I order their soft tacos. They are a great size with an equal, and ample amount of ingredients. I would highly recommend Gringos well and above any other Mexican fast food.

Great Mexican food. Not nice sit down restaurant food, but all their food is fresh, not like Taco Bell. Their chips and salsa is to die for. They told me that they make it every day in store. I had their Chili Verde and it was very good. Never had anything like it

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
